Note: If you see an asterisk * anywhere, don't freak out! That just means that I will explain what something means further along.

Let’s say you’re doing a craft. You get all of your supplies, and start to stamp. Now, you’ve finished that part and it’s time to cut the edges of your paper. So, you get out your scissors and start snipping away. And then- OH, NO! You look up for just a second and almost cut the paper in half!

Your reaction is:

A. Start to cry.
B. Scream your head off and act like an angry baboon.
C. With a slight sigh, pull out another piece of paper.
D. If you’re the kind of person who likes to spend a lot of time on the computer, you start to look for the Undo button.

If your answer was C., I give you an A+ on patience. If your answer was A. or B., you need to have a little more time to relax. If your answer was D., don’t feel bad, I’m the same way- and maybe I could help. Let’s look at some verses. (P.S. this article is not for the faint of heart -just kidding!!) Here is what the Bible says about time, being busybodies, and how to use your time:
________

For we hear that there are some which walk among you disorderly, *working not at all*, but are busybodies. ~2 Thessalonians 3:11
To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven. A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted. A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up; A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance; A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing; A time to get, and a time to lose; a time to keep, and a time to cast away; A time to rend, and a time to sew; a time to keep silence, and a time to speak;
A time to love, and a time to hate; a time of war, and a time of peace. ~Ecclesiastes 3:1-8
________

* “working not at all” in a different version is said as “not being busy”. In other words, not minding their own business and doing what they are supposed to.

So, what do these verses mean? Well, I think they means to take your time, do things slowly and that you should and shouldn’t do certain things at certain times. Now, what is the difference between being Busy, or being a Busybody? Well, let’s take a look in the dictionary:

Busy:

1. Actively and attentively engaged in work.
2. Not at leisure otherwise engaged.
3. Full of activity.
4. In use.
5. Meddlesome, prying.
6. Cluttered with small fussy details.
7. To keep occupied; to make or keep busy.

Busybody:

1. A person who pries into or meddles in the affairs of others.

So, there is a HUGE difference in being busy, or being a busybody. So, in other words, being busy means that you are occupied in doing something, where as being a busybody means you are being a sort of nuisance, or gossip, butting in to other peoples affairs. Have you ever seen the movie or read the book Anne of Green Gables? Well, remember Marilla's friend Mrs. Rachel Lynde? She was a fine example of a busybody, because she was always butting into Marilla's business, and then gossiping about it. I’d much rather be busy than a busybody!

Now that we know what busy and busybody mean, let’s look at time:

Time (I did not use all of the definitions, as they would take an INCREDIBLE amount of time to write, and space.):

1. A particular period.
2. A definite point in time, as indicated by a clock.
3. An occurrence of an action or event.

So, now you’ve seen some verses about time, and seen some definitions. But, how would this have anything to do with looking for an Undo button? Well, if you look for an Undo button, what does Undo mean?

Undo:

1. To reverse the doing of.
2. To repair or erase.
3. To bring to ruin destroy.
4. To unfasten or unlatch.
5. To untie.

So, if you are looking for some kind of an undo button or erasing tool, that means you want to reverse what you have already done. Let’s say that you have a friend that you see pretty often. Her name is Celia. So, one day after you get all of your work done, you go and meet with Celia. But, you two start talking, and you share with her that you disagree about the way she's handled something. Well, you go home, and, after a few days feel really bad about what you said. So, you call up Celia, and even send her a card asking for forgiveness. After that you're friends again.

Good ending, isn’t it? But, the truth is, if you pry and hurt someone's feelings, those harsh words will stay there- no matter how big the bandage is. And, if you insult someone, you can even make them self conscious about lots of things, the way they look, the way they talk, their manners, their clothes, the way they think, etc. Have you ever had that happen? I think everyone has, and sadly, everyone probably will. That may be the time you look around for the undo button. So, here’s the question:

How can we find the undo button, time machine, or eraser tool? We can’t. But, with the help from Jesus, we can help prevent the need for an undo button. How can I do this with Jesus? Pray. Pray and ask for Him to help keep those nasty words from your mouth and tongue. More importantly, ask Him to help keep them from your mind. My mom always said that wearing a rubber band or piece of elastic around your wrist and snapping it when you felt like saying something mean would help you not to say it. But, only Jesus can help your mind. This is what the Bible has to say about God’s words, and our words:
________

God’s words:

Every word of God is pure: He is a shield unto them that put their trust in Him. ~Proverbs 30:5

The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. ~Psalm 12:6

How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth! ~Psalm 119:103

The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple. ~Psalm 119:130

Our words:

The words of his mouth are wicked and deceitful; he has ceased to be wise and to do good. ~Psalm 36:3

Who whet their tongue like a sword, and bend their bows to shoot their arrows, even bitter words… ~Psalm 64:3

That they may shoot in secret at the perfect: suddenly do they shoot at him, and fear not. ~Psalm 55:20-22

The words of a talebearer are as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly. ~Psalm 109:3

They compassed me about also with words of hatred; and fought against me without a cause. ~Proverbs 18:8

The words of his mouth were smoother than butter, but war was in his heart: his words were softer than oil, yet were they drawn swords. ~Psalm 55:21

For the sin of their mouth and the words of their lips let them even be taken in their pride: and for cursing and lying which they speak. ~Psalm 59:12
________
(Note: If you see some of the words underlined, I did that, it’s not really underlined in the Bible.)

Can you see how perfect and holy God’s words are, and how terrible and foolish ours are? Only God can prevent the need for an undo button. Ask for His help and guidance in all situations, whether it’s when you mess up and look for your “undo button” or when you just need someone to talk to. Remember, God’s always there, always watching. Let’s try to ask God for the help to let our words be pure like His, and to let us not be busybodies.
