~ CONFLICT ~

Marriage is maybe the biggest step we take in life.
One of the most important things before marriage is choosing the right partner.
One of the most important things after marriage is being the right partner.

You took your marriage vows - you promised before God and all your friends and family - that you would stick with this person for your entire life. No matter what.

Here are the vows that you most likely said, perhaps with some slight variation:

"I, take you to be my husband, to have and to hold from this day forward,
for better or for worse,
for richer, for poorer,
in sickness and in health,
to love and to cherish;
from this day forward
until death do us part."

Everyone is happy and giddy on their wedding day,
anxious to say these famous words.

Obviously no one would rush to the altar if they knew that in the future they were going to discover their intended Prince Charming was a secret abuser, or porn addict, or had deep underlying mental issues, or was going to cheat on them, or cease to communicate with them. Yet that is exactly what happens in a lot of marriages. We marry with stars in our eyes.

That's why one of the most important things about marriage is to be really careful about WHO you are marrying.
Because you promised God to stay with this man for life.

Hopefully, the issues in your marriage are not THAT severe. Even if they are, God is in the business of changing lives and restoring relationships, so don't despair. If you have severe problems, we encourage you to get real, in-life help.

Marriages go through peaks and valleys. Sooner or later, most marriages go through periods where we look at our husband with some degree of irritation or disappointment. Counselors will tell you that in marriages, couples get into a cycle where typically the wife criticizes the husband and the man withdrawals (or gets aggressive). This can go on and on and become significant.
